Creating Projects
How to create a new project in Vortyk. Naming conventions, adding locations, and setting up your workspace.
Last updated: April 18, 2026
Steps
- From your dashboard, click New Project.
- Enter a project name.
- Add a location using the address search field (optional but recommended).
- Add any notes for internal reference (optional).
- Click Create Project.
Your project is now ready. You can start adding surveys and uploading photos immediately.
Naming your projects
Choose a name that helps you identify the project at a glance. Good project names include specific details:
| Instead of this | Use this |
|---|---|
| Project 1 | 123 Main St - Roof Inspection |
| Smith Job | Smith Residence - Foundation Assessment |
| March Work | Warehouse B - Environmental Survey - March 2026 |
If your organization uses job numbers, include them: #4521 - Riverside Office Complex.
Adding a location
When you create a project, you can set a location using Google Places autocomplete. Start typing an address and select from the suggestions. Vortyk stores both the formatted address and the GPS coordinates.
Setting a location is optional, but strongly recommended. It powers the interactive map view, appears on your reports, and helps you validate that uploaded photos were taken near the project site.
See Project Locations for more detail.
