Creating Surveys

How to create a new survey in Vortyk. Step-by-step instructions and naming tips for effective organization.

Steps

  1. Navigate to the project where you want to add a survey.
  2. Click New Survey.
  3. Enter a survey name.
  4. Click Create Survey.

Your survey is ready. You can start uploading photos immediately.

Naming your surveys

A good survey name tells you exactly what it contains without opening it. Include dates, inspection types, or location areas.

Effective survey names:

  • Roof Inspection - March 15, 2026
  • Building A Exterior
  • Phase 2 Foundation Assessment
  • Unit 4B - Pre-Move-In Condition
  • North Parking Lot - Drainage Issues

Avoid vague names:

  • Survey 1
  • Photos
  • Inspection
  • March

Your survey name appears on generated reports, so choose something your clients will understand.

When to create a new survey

Create a new survey when you need a distinct group of photos that should appear in their own report. Common triggers:

  • New site visit. Each time you return to a job site
  • Different area. Moving to a different building, floor, or zone
  • Different scope. Switching from one inspection type to another
  • Different date. Separating documentation by calendar date

There is no penalty for creating many surveys. Use them liberally to keep your photos organized.

  • Survey name: Required
  • Surveys per project: Unlimited
  • Photos per survey: 200
